Solar electricity has a huge environmental
significance
to our school.

Solar represents clean air in our community. Solar power systems derive clean, pure energy from the sun. Solar panels help combat greenhouse gas emissions and reduces our collective dependence on fossil fuel because solar energy has no emissions, digging or spills. Traditional electricity is sourced from fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas. When fossil fuels are burned to create energy, they emit toxic gases that are the primary cause of pollution and global warming.
For a 50 kW rooftop system, which would be best for our school, the sum of the greenhouse gas emissions avoided by this solar system's 25-year energy production has a carbon dioxide equivalent of 1226 tons. This is equivalent to avoiding:

Greenhouse gas emissions from 2,648,245 miles driven by a car.

Carbon sequestered by 912 acres of forest in one year.

Carbon Dioxide emissions from 399 tons of waste sent to the landfill.
